“The Lost History of Gay Carnival in New Orleans”

Unveiling the Muse: The History of Gay Carnival in New Orleans by Howard Philips Smith is an amazing collection of the history including all the Major Gay Krewes from the 1950’s to present.  Its a collection of never-before-published invitations, commemorative posters, admit cards, programs, elaborate stage sets and costume designs as well as photographs of ball costumes. Some founding Krewe members and Royalty are given the opportunity to tell what it was like to participate and what it took to overcome many obstacles of being a gay organization.

I’m genuinely humbled to have my Krewe of Amon-Ra costume designs, invitations, programs and mention of my involvement as Captain of The Krewe of Petronius included in this book.  Thank you Howard for your efforts, the results are remarkable! Thank you Beani and Brandi for my autographed copy, Love you both!

“His designs are know for their complexity and visual delight, emphasizing the use of feathers for larger-than life headdresses, collars, and mantels.  Harkening back to Ziegfield Follies and Broadway, Zeringue’s masterful touch has become synonymous with the New Renaissance of Gay Carnival.”
